Melanie Peña, Grant Writer


Melanie Peña is an active parent with three children at Mira Vista School. She supports DIGS with her expertise in writing, planning, and serving Latinx populations. She is a public health professional with 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including running youth peer education programs, fundraising, and managing communications strategies. She has worked extensively with community-based organizations in Latin America and organizations in the U.S. serving Latinx and immigrant populations. Ms. Peña currently manages reproductive health research projects in Mexico and an online training initiative for health care providers in Latin America. She recently supported the development of a nutrition recipe book for DIGS including community outreach and content coordination. She also served as a volunteer reviewer for UC Berkeley Master Gardeners to provide input to pilot a Spanish language gardening series developed for Latinx learners.
